Tips: How to Get Great Video Testimonials

With the recent launch of the VideoBloom Video Testimonial Widget, we’ve gotten a lot of feedback from clients that think it’s an awesome tool for gaining consumer trust through the use of authentic client testimonials, but they’re wondering: How do we actually get really effective and engaging videos from our clients?

Here are 4 useful tips to help you get the most out of your client’s video testimonials:

Tip 1: Ask for them
It may sound silly but most companies don’t have a process for requesting testimonials. Make a point of asking all of your clients for their rave reviews (sure you never know what you’re going to get, but good or bad, you can always learn from your client’s experiences).

And be sure to strike while the iron is hot! Whether you just sold them their first house or served them the best Red Velvet Cupcake they’ve ever tasted, be sure to capture that euphoria!

Tip 2: Keep it real
Any testimonial that you publish absolutely has to be real. Using names, locations, companies, job titles, etc… will all add to the legitimacy of the video.

Tip 3: Get Specific
Typically, the first question you get when asking for a testimonial is: what do you want me talk about? It’s okay to ask your clients to talk about specific products, situations, and even specific reactions. The more precise the description, the more compelling the testimonial. Here’s a pretty terrific example of a testimonial (if we do say so ourselves):

Oh, and if you’ve ever won over a skeptic, you’ve just found the holy grail of testimonials! Many customers subconsciously think that if you can persuade a non-believer, you must be good. If you can find a skeptic turned believer, you’ve hit the jackpot!

Tip 4: There is only one Spielberg.
When it comes time to record the testimonials, a professional camera and recording equipment aren’t necessarily necessary. If you’ve got a decent web-cam or hand-held camera, you’ve got all you need.
