Have you ever wondered what Web sites are using video for? Well we have too, so we took a look back at all of the VIEW Indexes performed to date. This was not an easy task as VideoBloom has indexed almost 650 sites, a majority of which use video. To further complicate the process most sites utilize video for more than one application. In fact, on average the sites we analyzed used 1.5 different video applications, with some using as many as 5 different applications.
We broke down video applications into 7 different categories: promotion, demonstration/how-to, information, entertainment, news, UGC (user generated content) and other. Promotion videos include commercials, testimonials, business overviews and PR videos. Demonstration videos include product and service explanations, demonstrations and walkthroughs, as well as how-to videos. Information videos include video reviews and general knowledge videos. Entertainment and news videos are self-explanatory. The ‘other’ video category contains everything else.
And now the results, drum roll please……
Video Applications Across Major Internet Sites*
(For example 34% of the Web sites polled with video use it for promotional applications.)

Note: the percentages do not add up to 100% because many sites are utilizing more than one application of video.
